E4 and E3: how Code 95 e-learning is built
A Code 95 course with e-learning takes 7 hours in total. The CBR recognises two variants that determine how those 7 hours are split between online self-study and the classroom part.
The two variants
In both variants it is 7 hours of continuing training in total. The difference is the split.
| Variant | E-learning (online) | Classroom | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| E4 | 4 hours | 3 hours | 7 hours |
| E3 | 3 hours | 4 hours | 7 hours |

What the Framework requires
The Framework is the CBR's set of rules for continuing training courses. For e-learning it requires, among other things:
- Both parts of the same course take place within a period of 10 calendar days.
- The online part must be finished before the classroom part starts.
- Of the 35 hours of continuing training, at most 12 hours may be e-learning.
What the system enforces
The e-learning system applies these rules, so that neither learner nor provider can get them wrong:
- Only active time counts. The certificate is only issued after a passed final test and the full active time: 4 hours for E4, 3 hours for E3.
- Once the classroom part has started you can no longer take the tests and no certificate is issued.
- You may pause the online part and continue later. No time counts while you are paused.
Which variant is available now?
The course that is available now, Digital tachograph and on-board computers (U23-1), is variant E4: 4 hours of active time online and 3 hours in the classroom.
Frequently asked questions
Which variant do I follow?
That belongs to the course of your training provider. The variant is recorded in its training plan at the CBR.
What is active time?
The time you are really working on the course. The system only counts time with activity and logs you out after 15 minutes without activity.
May I do more than 12 hours of e-learning out of my 35 hours?
No. According to the Framework, at most 12 of the 35 hours of continuing training may be e-learning.
Can I do the online part in one go?
You do not have to. You can pause and continue later, as long as the online part is finished before the classroom part starts.
